My WordPress Experience &
Why I Started Build More WP

Hi, I’m Mark. Since 2008, I’ve been building WordPress websites—first as a freelancer developing themes from scratch, then using page builders like WP Bakery and Divi for client projects and personal sites. I was never much of a true developer, so I stuck with page builders.

I’ve watched the platform evolve dramatically with the introduction of the Gutenberg Block Editor and Full Site Editing. But I’ve been hesitant to make the switch from the familiar page builder workflows I know, until now.

Why Build More WP Exists

This site documents my exploration of the Block Editor ecosystem, and curates the best block plugins and themes I’ve found. I’m not claiming to be a Gutenberg expert—I’m still learning, but I’m sharing my discoveries along the way.

What you’ll find:

  • A growing directory of block plugins and FSE themes that I’m researching, testing, or just interested in.
  • Upcoming: Honest reviews of block plugins and themes, and who they’re best suited for.
  • Upcoming: Documentation of what I learn about Gutenberg and what I’ve built with the Block Editor.

A Work in Progress

Ironically, Build More WP currently runs on the Total WordPress Theme from ThemeForest—not a block based theme. I chose it because I could quickly bring my vision to life using tools I already knew well. Total uses WP Bakery.

As I learn more about Gutenberg, I’ll be gradually rebuilding sections of this site with the Block Editor and documenting that process (I’ve already rebuilt this page with basic core blocks). You’ll get to see the transformation happen alongside my own journey.

My Vision for BMWP

My goal is to create a resource and practical guide to Gutenberg from the perspective of someone who’s been using WordPress for years but is new to the block ecosystem.

Whether you’re a freelancer, business owner, or WordPress enthusiast, I hope you find value in what I share along the way.
